Wire Coatings
Teleflex Medical OEM has the right wire coatings for nearly any application. These include:
- Polyurethane-SB with a self-bonding overcoat of thermoplastic adhesive
- Polyimide, where toughness, abrasion resistance and resistance to solvents are required
- Polyester in several iterations
Technical Information: Materials for Coating Wires
POLYURETHANE-SB Self-Bonding Overcoat NEMA MW-130 NEMA Class 130 |
Polyurethane with a self-bonding overcoat of thermoplastic adhesive. Coils hold shape without tape or varnish. Bonding may be accomplished by resistance heating, oven heating, or activation during winding with alcohol or other suitable solvent. Applications: High quality voice-coils, small yoke coils, complicated coils which must be self-supporting and encapsulated coils wound without bobbins. |
POLYURETHANE-N Polyamide Overcoat NEMA MW-28 Class 130 |
Polyurethane base with polyamide overcoat for improved winding and added protection from encapsulation materials. Used in applications requiring solderable magnet wire with dependable performance at 130°C with overload protection. Not to be used where high “Q” values are required. Applications: Armatures for portable tools and appliances, random wound coils with high turn pressures, solenoids, torroidal coils. Avoid use for IF and RF coils or for transformer oil and hermetic motors. |
FORMVAR NEMA-MW-15 Class 105 |
Use this materials for applications that require toughness, abrasion resistance, and resistance to solvents are required. Applications: Random wound stators and armatures, DC motor and generator windings, and transformers. |
POLYESTER-N Polyamide Overcoat NEMA MW-24 Class 155 |
Insulation film of modified polyester base with an overcoat of polyamide results in good windability, flexibility and resistance to heat/solvent shock. Moisture containing or generating insulations are not compatible with polyamide overcoat. Preheating prior to varnishing should be gradual. Avoid insulating materials containing chlorine. Applications: Motor and generator windings. |
SOLDERABLE POLYESTER NEMA MW-26 Class 155 |
Solderable polyester magnet wire, a modified polyester resin solderable without prior stripping at 850 to 875°F. Good windability, flexibility and resistance to heat/solvent shock. Moisture containing or generating insulations are not compatible with solderable polyester. Preheating prior to varnishing should be gradual. Avoid insulating materials containing chlorine. Furnished with or without a nylon overcoat. Applications: Motor and generator windings, solenoids, relays. |
POLYESTER-AI Polyamide-imide Overcoat NEMA MW-35 Class 200 |
Overcoat of polyamide-imide applied over a base coating of polyester for improved windability, more resistance to heat/solvent shock and thermoplastic flow, and less potential to solvent crazing. Preheating prior to varnishing should be gradual. Insulating materials containing chlorine should not be part of an enclosed or sealed system. Applications: Motor windings, solenoids, and numerous other Class-200 applications. |
POLYIMIDE NEMA MW-16 Class 240 |
Replaces most film-insulated magnet wires in electrical apparatus operating up to 240°C, where increased component output is required from miniaturized components or without increasing size. Compatible with most varnishes and encapsulating compounds. Ideal where extremely high cut-through resistance is required. Applications: Aerospace systems. AC and DC motors/generators, hermetically sealed motors/relays, dry-type transformers, and all types of encapsulated windings. |
